Self-employed: Eligible candidates

Eligibility

In order to immigrate as a sole proprietor, you must:

  • Possess pertinent experience
  • Should be capable of and eager to work for oneself in Canada.
  • Satisfy the program’s requirements for selection, and
  • Fulfil all necessary requirements in terms of health, security, and other factors.

Relevant expertise

Your background is relevant if you have:

  • Participated in world-class sporting or cultural endeavours, or
  • Had a successful independent career in either athletics or culture

Definitions

For a self-employed person, relevant experience requires at least two years of work history. It must have happened between the five years prior to the application date and the day authority decided whether to accept your application.

If you have three, four, or five years of experience, you can get additional points. Your background must include the following, at the very least: About cultural pursuits:

  • 1. Two one-year periods of self-employment in the arts, or
  • 2. one-year periods spent engaging in cultural pursuits at a world-class level, or
  • 3. A duration equal to the sum of the one-year periods indicated in above points.

For athletics

  • Two years of self-employment in athletics, or
  • Engaging in athletics for two consecutive years at a world-class level, or
  • A duration equal to the sum of the one-year periods stated in (a) and (b) above.

The selection standard is evaluated according to the experience, education, age, language proficiency and adaptability.

The need for health-related, security-related, and other – One must undergo a medical examination and get police clearance for themselves and their family. Additionally, they also need to demonstrate that, they would be able to help their family once arrived in Canada.
