Eligibility to submit a Federal Skilled Trades Program application
The Federal Skilled Trades Program is designed for skilled employees who desire to become permanent residents because of their qualifications in a skilled profession.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, one is supposed to complete and get the band of 6.5 or at least 7 in the language proficiency standards for each language in the writing area, reading area, listening area, and speaking area. So, within the five years before applying, you must have at least two years of full-time job experience (or an equivalent amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled professional you are using.Your employment experience must have been for a wage (paid salaries or earned commission; unpaid internships or voluntary labor do not count). One should also possess a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal authority-issued certificate of certification in that skilled occupation or a valid job offer of full-time work for at least one year.
Skilled Work Experience
Following are the groupings of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) under which skilled trades under the Federal Skilled Trades Program are categorized:
- Industrial, electrical, and construction trades (The major Group 72)
- Maintenance and equipment operation trades (The Major Group 73)
- Supervisory and technical positions in natural resources, agriculture, and associated activities (The Major Group 82)
- Central control operators and primary Group 92, processing, manufacturing, and utility supervisors
- the cooks and chefs of Minor Group 632
- Small Group 633, Bakers and Butchers
The primary NOC categories are split up into several jobs, all of which fall under skill type B. You must provide evidence that you carried out the tasks listed in the lead statement of the NOC’s occupational description. This comprises all the necessary tasks and most of the principal functions mentioned.
Your application may be rejected if you cannot demonstrate that your experience matches the requirements outlined in the NOC. For the condition of the position, identify the NOC code, title, and skill level. The employment history only becomes relevant if you’re certified to work independently.
Education
The Federal Skilled Trades Program has no educational requirements. Nevertheless, there are two methods you may raise your Express Entry pool ranking.
- Obtaining a certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian earns you points if you attended school there: a post-secondary institution or a secondary school
- If you possess an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report for immigration reasons from a designated organisation demonstrating that your education is equivalent to a completed certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian: Post-secondary institution or secondary institution (high school)
Language Ability
Taking recognized language exams in writing, reading, hearing, and speaking, and achieving the minimum requirements for Canadian Language Benchmarks 5 for speaking and listening and 4 for reading and writing Express Entry profile. Your language tests are valid for two years after they are completed. They must be current as you submit your application for permanent residency.
Funding Proof
If you receive a grant for permanent residence in Canada, then the money must be available when you apply and at that time. When you arrive, you’ll need to show an immigration official that you have permission to access the funds you’ll need. Any banks or other financial organizations with money on deposit must provide you with formal letters as proof. Or if you want to settle with family, you need the evidence at that time too.
Otherwise, it would help if you either had a legitimate employment offer from a company in Canada or you are currently able to work legally in Canada.
Living in Canada
The FST is not available to applicants who want to settle in Quebec since that province controls immigration. If you reside in Quebec, you might choose to apply instead through the Quebec Skilled Worker Program.
Receive a province or territory assessment
To get your trade evaluated, you’ll probably need to travel to the province or region. To gain experience and training, you could also require employers in Canada.
